Baker County, located in Northeast Oregon, has a population of 16,400 and covers 3,049 square miles. The county seat, Baker City, is the largest community with a population of 10,035. Situated at the base of the Elkhorn Mountains at an elevation of 3,369 feet, Baker City offers abundant recreational opportunities; from skiing fresh powder in the winter to hiking, camping, and fishing on the thousands of acres of national forests and wilderness located throughout the county. The views are breath-taking, the air is clean and the people are genuine.
Our proximity to Interstate 84 and a Union Pacific Railroad mainline both offer convenient access to two modes of transportation for our local businesses. Our location in relation to major markets in the Pacific Northwest makes Baker County a logical choice when weighing the costs involved in transporting product to market.
Settled during the days of the gold rush, Baker County, still reliant on agriculture, has diversified its economic base to include tourism, manufacturing, and other traded-sector industries. Baker County offers all of the advantages of Oregon’s pro-business climate, as well some not found in other areas of the state. Ted Kulongoski, Oregon’s current governor, has recognized Baker City and County as the model for what an area can accomplish with a shared vision, strategy, and the people committed to make it happen.
